Fall Dinner 2021 Recap & Highlights

Highlights from Our 2021 Fall Dinner Program

Not able to make it to our 2021 Fall Dinner? We missed you! We’re excited to share the highlights of our program with you so you can still experience the stories of courage and our gratitude for how you empower our mission!

At our Fall Dinner, we were thrilled to introduce our Annual Impact Report for the 2020-2021 school year, which is filled with stories of the impact you helped us achieve during the most recent school year. You can read the report for yourself here.

We wanted to dig deeper into one of these stories about a great nonprofit partner, GLAD House. During the 2020-2021 year, GLAD House was involved in our efforts to reach more students, and especially at-risk students, with philanthropy education. We officially launched “Extension Programs,” or programs hosted by groups that work with young people outside of a standard school setting. Through these programs, we’re making philanthropy education accessible to more youth, especially students who are at-risk or under-served.

In addition to hosting a Magnified Giving program with their own youth, GLAD House was selected by students in four different schools to receive Magnified Giving grants totaling $4,200. One of those schools is Lakota East Freshman School. Through a video message, we’d like to introduce you to the wonderful teachers at Lakota East, and the students who advocated for GLAD House, Aidan and Alissa, so you can see for yourself the power of this process and the courage they demonstrated.

In addition to celebrating these wonderful teachers, students, and nonprofit partners, we were pleased to honor another incredible individual at our dinner. We were joined by Liz Keating to present the Bill Keating Jr. Next Gen Award, named in memory of a wonderful man, friend, and former board member of Magnified Giving, Bill Keating Jr.

Liz Keating, daughter of the late Bill Keating, presented this award to Caroline Ray. Caroline began her journey with Magnified Giving as a high school student, participating through an after school program as a junior and senior in 2011 and 2012. Since her time as a student with Magnified Giving, she has earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Education from Xavier University. In 2017, Caroline adapted the 7th-12th grade Magnified Giving curriculum to create Camp Give by Magnified Giving, facilitating the service-learning camps for youth in grades 3-12. She continued to serve Magnified Giving programs from 2018-2021 as the Director of Education. Today, she teaches 6th grade Social Studies in Brooklyn, New York. Inside or outside of the classroom, her goal as an educator is to create a caring environment in which her students may find a better understanding of the world, connect with their peers, embrace their abilities, and engage in their community. Though Caroline wishes she could have been with us in person, she joined us via video to accept her award. You can view her acceptance speech below.

One of Caroline’s most meaningful contributions to Magnified Giving and our community was co-creating Camp Give with another alumna of Magnified Giving, Julie Gyure. Camp Give’s success and value was recognized by Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky, and through an incredible partnership, we have been able to expand Camp Give to the Youth Leadership Development program at Brighton Center for three summers in a row. Through Camp Give, students in this program in Northern Kentucky who are identified as at-risk are able to find their voice and develop deeper ties with their community by building relationships with local nonprofits.

We have a special video to introduce you to some of the remarkable people involved in this summer’s Brighton Center Camp Give.

We are so thankful for your courage, generosity, and passion in supporting the incredible impact of Camp Give and our Student Philanthropy Programs. We prepared a special slideshow to reflect on our past 14 years of empowering young philanthropists. The vocalist in this video is our very own Director of Advancement, Carey Kuznar, and the original song is True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Please Enjoy!

It is inspiring and rewarding to reflect on the past 14 years. Many of those who attended the dinner and are reading this now demonstrated great courage and faith in jumping in to support Roger Grein’s dream years ago, and we are so thankful for your loyal support. And for those of us who are newer to the Magnified Giving family, we hope you feel proud and excited to be part of this work, because we believe that together, we are creating a stronger and more courageous future for our city.
